ECONOMY Revamped 40-year-old trains will boost Athens metro schedule Fourteen revamped trains first used in 1985 will gradually join the Athens metro fleet starting this summer and ending in 2027. They will be exclusively used on Line 1 (Piraeus-Kifissia), the system’s oldest, that is widely plagued by delays, overcrowding and, as importantly in a city with a long, hot summer, lack of air conditioning.
