Musician Devon Welsh on making something unexpected
Do you think it matters to be able to talk about your work in an articulate way? Uhh… [laughs] Or do you think it’s fine to make your art and if you’re doing an interview or if a fan comes up to you with questions, do you think it’s okay to just say “I don’t really know” when they ask you about your songs? I feel like that’s probably okay to do. That’s what I hope, anyway, because that’s how I feel about explaining my music.
Three poems

I’d look up and watch where they were going though I had no idea, flying in some direction taking shifts leading with the rest drafting behind.
Nick Schofield and Devon Welsh Aren’t Trying to Clearly Define Reality
Nick Schofield is a Montreal-based composer whose latest album Glass Gallery — inspired by Ottawa’s National Gallery of Canada — was just released in February. Devon Welsh is a fellow Canadian artist, formerly of the electropop duo Majical Cloudz, who now performs solo under his own name. To celebrate the new album, the friends and collaborators hopped on a call to catch up.

True Love, by Devon Welsh
1. When I’m around you I can feel so many things go through my head I want to be just like my step-dad, I want to be as cool as him But then the only thing that I can ever really find is me, I hope you like it I always touch your hair like I wish it was mine But then you feel my head, you say “this way looks fine” I think that there are many things that I still haven’t tried, I love you Can I be your man?
Devon Welsh (Majical Cloudz) Talks Sky Ferreira's Night Time, My Time
In an attempt to reconcile the apparent hypocrisy of this piece of writing, I suggest that it be the last piece on Night Time, My Time that you ever read. Type “Sky Ferreira” into Google. Down the Mountain
This is a small collection of songs that were written at different times over the last two years. Some of them were written during the same time as Are You Alone? but did not end up on that album for one reason or another. Others were written and recorded for fun last summer. I want to release all these songs because I like them a lot and since I am working on new music, my attention will inevitably go to that new music and these songs will be forgotten, and forgotten songs are sad.
Devon Welsh
Devon Welsh Devon Welsh writes songs and lyrics in Majical Cloudz. His opinions are neither to be taken seriously nor to be trusted. Bio Majical Cloudz wasmusic and performance. Rooted in solo material written by Devon Welsh between rural Ontario and Montreal, he joined with Matthew Otto in February 2012 to collaboratively produce and perform the music. Their performance was deeply expressive — strong vocals sat on top of washes of white noise, filtered synths and sparse thuds.
