Temporarily embarrassed millionaires
Instant wealth is all around us. State sponsored lotteries, casinos that are no longer restricted to just Las Vegas and Atlantic City, reality TV shows like American Idol promise instant fame and fortune. People will stand in line for days just for a chance to audition for American Idol —but the odds are stacked against them before they even sing a note—only 100 out of 10,000 auditions even get past the first round, and there are three rounds.
The difference between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton in one paragraph.
Politico is out with a great article exploring the historic relationship between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. As you can imagine, Bernie was skeptical of a centrist Bill Clinton running for president in 1992, and immediately after Clinton won the election and appointed Hillary to lead health care reform, Bernie set to work attempting to convince her of the virtue of a single-payer, Medicare-for-all system. As you can probably also imagine, he wasn't successful.
WSJ: Clinton's DoS blocked the release of politically sensitive records about Keystone XL Pipeline
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the U.S. Department of State, then under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, blocked the release of politically sensitive records about the Keystone XL pipeline, requested by Friends of The Earth.

Now that the defense industry in the United States has taken a bit of a budgeting hit at home, they’re getting more aggressive overseas. Defense contractors are opening satellite offices and selling arms as fast as they can into the chaos of the Middle East. Between the fight against ISIS and the war in Yemen, more Arab countries are getting into the act and using their arsenals.
49 percent of Republicans do not believe in evolution
There's a new Public Policy Polling poll out identifying Scott Walker as the top Republican pick among their presidential maybe-candidates. But some of the other poll results among self-identified Republicans are doozies. For example • 49 percent of Republicans say they do not believe in evolution. Only 37 percent say they do. • 66 percent of Republicans say they do not believe in global warming.
Greenwald, Taibbi and the new Anti-Semitism
I've felt for some time that this historical ignorance is the achilles heel of our side, and the amount of rage and anger I've seen directed at me when I raise it (I've been labeled a secret Neo-Con, a traitor for Israel, etc.) only further convinces me that these issues not only aren't going away, they're going to get worse.
Glenn Greenwald Responds to Widespread Lies About Him (on Cato, Iraq War, and more)
If you're a regular reader of Glenn Greenwald's like I am, you may have occasionally come across some rather vicious lies about his character - that he's a right-wing libertarian and that he supported the Iraq War, among others. I don't know where these claims originated, but I've read plenty of blog posts and comments propagating them during the past few years - both on Daily Kos and elsewhere - and I had hoped for a long time that he would write a comprehensive post debunking them.
