The Wyoming Range is not as sexy as the Tetons but at 100 miles long, it’s easily double the size of the more famous range. Perhaps the most overlooked by Jackson residents and visitors of the five mountain ranges that ring Jackson Hole, the Wyoming Range is part of the Bridger-Teton National Forest’s Big Piney and Greys River ranger districts. It has hundreds of miles of trails, few crowds, peaks that top 11,000 feet, and the 75-mile-long Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail.

Under greybird skies last Saturday, I walked down my driveway, turned right onto Cache Creek Drive, left onto Upper Cache Creek Drive and then left into the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Six hours, 19 miles, 3,200 vertical feet and countless photos of wildflowers later, I was back at my driveway having completed a circumnavigation of Snow King by foot.

Instead of being frustrated by this spring’s excessively wanton disregard for stable weather, I’m enjoying low elevation walks, biking on the Inner Park Loop Road, and making and refining my list of adventures to have this summer. This list is an annual exercise, and every year it is a mix of new adventures and old favorites. In case you’re looking for ideas for this summer, here are three from my list.
