Keyboards are a gateway drug. At least they were for me. It started out innocuously enough: I bought a keyboard kit (Sofle Choc from PandaKB) with all the parts online, then put it together over the course of a week. That was my first big “build.” Part of the project was hand-soldering the optional surface-mount LEDs, the successful installation of which pushed my confidence through the roof.

I’ve been following the e-reader scene for years now, and few things get me as excited as new hardware. This has been a good year for E Ink devices with the Boox Go 7 and reMarkable Paper Pro Move being released, but it doesn’t look like the new-hardware party is over. Last week, Kobo revealed a new color for its Clara Colour, and a few days ago, Kobo’s CEO Michael Tamblyn teased a “little hardware surprise” on his Threads account, and we’re itching to know what it is (via Good e-Reader).

Although it’s not a brand name on most people’s lips, Boox’s line of e-readers are without question the best e-ink devices on the market right now that aren’t Kindle or Kobo, and arguably the best in their class out of any e-reader. Now, the Go 7 isn’t a perfect product by any stretch, but it gets a whole lot right that the competition fails at — enough that you can probably adapt to some of its rough edges.
