Grayson Maashi of Whale Cove is learning about Arctic governance, climate change and himself while taking part in a voyage from Nuuk to Iqaluit this summer. The 16-year-old is aboard the Ocean Nova as part of a North-to-North expedition, which brought together 60 youth from Canada, Greenland and other Nordic countries to learn about different careers in conservation and science.

Man dies after being struck by a vehicle in Kangiqsujuaq Original

A man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle on July 1 in Kangiqsujuaq, Nunavik Police Service says. Officers responded at around 3:48 a.m. to a report of a man struck by a vehicle in the community’s marina parking lot. An ambulance transported the man to the local nursing station, where he was pronounced dead, wrote deputy Chief Shaun Longstreet in an email Tuesday evening.

Thirty beluga whales stranded at the now-defunct Marineland park in Niagara Falls, Ont. appear to be bound for the United States instead of to the Arctic Ocean, as one Nunavik man had proposed. Last fall, when Canadians learned the once-popular tourist attraction considered euthanizing the whales it could no longer pay to care for, Nunavik’s Jason Etok proposed an alternative solution.
