TOLEDO, Ohio — Police have arrested man accused of fatally shooting his neighbor, 53-year-old John Smoot, in a backyard on their central Toledo street Saturday morning. Deji Lee, 53, is charged with murder and felonious assault, and is due for an initial appearance in Toledo Municipal Court Monday morning. Smoot's cousin, Nicholas Stone, says he was a hardworking contractor known for helping others in the community.

Organizers said safety remains a priority as large crowds are anticipated, particularly following last weekend’s mass shooting in Toledo’s Old West End.
