Parts of Cork city’s southside could see water supply disruptions on Wednesday afternoon, Uisce Éireann has warned. The water utility company said essential maintenance works are scheduled to begin at 3pm on Wednesday, July 1, running until 7pm that evening. The works come less than a fortnight after new connection works caused widespread overnight disruptions across the local area.

New Cork passport office not likely to open before end of 2027

Cork’s new passport office is likely to be delayed by a year, a Government TD has been told, only months after the Department of Foreign Affairs said it would open by Christmas. Last July, Tánaiste Simon Harris, then the minister for foreign affairs, said it was intended that a new passport office would be fully operational on Albert Quay by autumn of this year.

Uisce Éireann has told an Oireachtas committee that clear water is safe to drink, even though the HSE has told the same committee that water colour does not relate to the safety of drinking water. Appearing before the Oireachtas joint committee on housing last week, Pat O’Sullivan, Uisce Éireann’s drinking water compliance senior manager, repeated the company’s advice that clear water is safe to drink. “This primarily would relate to the metals manganese and iron, which can cause discolouration.
