A Grandview man who brandished a pistol during a fight between his son and another boy outside an elementary school has been sentenced. Joe Anthony M. Reyes, 33, pleaded guilty in Yakima County Superior Court July 22 to second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and displaying a weapon in an October 2025 incident. The firearms possession charge stems from his prior conviction in Benton County District Court for violating a no-contact order in 2018.

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first full-time job as a journalist was as a reporter with The Register in Shrewsbury, N.J. I covered four communities in Monmouth County.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

I started using a typewriter in fifth grade due to my poor penmanship. I took one typing class in eighth grade.

How is social media changing news?

On the one hand, it gives us a way to get news out faster. It also makes it easier to interact with the public.
