Monday’s severe thunderstorms produced an EF-0 tornado over Eastern North Carolina in Cedar Island in Carteret County, according to the National Weather Service in Morehead City. This now marks the 5th EF-0 tornado in the state. Of the five EF-0 tornadoes, this is the second one in ENC this year, as Jacksonville saw damage back in early March. EF-0 Tornado confirmed in Cedar Island (8-24-2026) The tornado had winds around 75-85 miles per hour and was on the ground for 0.18 miles.

For the rest of the day and into Wednesday, High pressure will build. We will experience partly to mostly sunny skies, low humidity, and seasonable highs in the mid-80s, and lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s. A stray coastal shower is possible, but that is more on the lower side. Heading into late week, a front will bring another round of showers and storms from the north and west. For those heading to the Winterville Watermelon Festival or high school football games, the rain gear will be needed.

Eastern North Carolina and those along the Southeast coast were treated to a special sight in the sky Tuesday morning around 5:45 a.m. SpaceX had a successful launch this morning, as the Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. According to SpaceX, the mission delivered at least 29 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit. WITN viewers sent in pictures of the Falcon 9 Rocket from parts of Pitt County.
