It has been about 48 hours since the Mavericks traded Kristaps Porzingis and a second round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans. It is still hard to believe that it has actually happened, but it has and now it’s time to focus on what exactly is next for Dallas and its two new players. The simple fact is that both players were having terrible seasons and are early on in big contracts the Wizards seemed to have immediate buyers remorse after finalizing.

The Mavericks put an exclamation point on the NBA’s trade deadline on Thursday with a deal that shocked everyone in the NBA universe. Dallas has spent this entire deadline day trying to find a home for Porzingis' considerable contract, league sources say, and they have struck a deal with the Wizards to send the oft-injured big man to Washington for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans.

As we head into the back half of January, the February 10th NBA trade deadline is fast approaching. After dealing with injuries and a breakout of COVID-19 over the last month, the Mavericks are finally healthy and playing their best basketball of the season. Entering Monday night’s game with the Oklahoma City Thunder with a 24-19 record and sitting at fifth in the Western Conference, Dallas has a real opportunity to keep things rolling over the next few weeks.
