Born and raised in Western Australia, I earned undergraduate degrees in International Studies and Social Science at the University of South Australia before leaving for Europe to complete my postgraduate studies. My doctoral research was focused on the nexus of complexity theory, chaos theory, and international relations theory, and I earned my Ph.D. in 2010.

In biotech, tension in one of a company’s most consequential relationships usually becomes visible late. A partner hesitates. The board pushes back on terms everyone assumed were settled. A financing path starts competing with a partnering option. A deal structure turns contentious just as momentum builds. But the problem rarely starts there. When executive search firm bioCatalyst asked 19 biotech leaders what actually breaks their deals, the answer was rarely the science.
