Pharmacological characterization of prostaglandin E2 EP2 and EP4 receptors in male rat locus coeruleus neurons ex vivo
Prostaglandins are inflammatory mediator’s synthetized on demand by cyclooxygenase (COX). In mammal brain, the COX enzyme is constitutively expressed under non-inflammatory circumstances both in cell bodies and dendrites, suggesting a role of prostaglandins in basal conditions. The main final product of COX synthesis is the prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which binds to G protein-coupled PGE2 EP1, EP2, EP3 and EP4 receptors.
