Madonna – Confessions II (Warner) ★★★★½ The good news: Confessions II is worthy of its predecessor. In the frequently rum world of sequel albums, this makes Madonna’s return to working with Stuart Price the Godfather II of follow-up records. The bad news is that it lacks a Hung Up equivalent, that one solid gold single. In the context of Confessions II being an even more club-oriented record than the original, this doesn’t matter.

Isle Of Wight Festival 2026, Seaclose Park, Newport 19-21 June ★★★★ When a festival’s standout sets encompasses The Cure, Level 42 and Five, it’s hard to complain about a lack of variety in a weekend that atoned for the previous year’s blander offerings. Robert Smith has achieved many things in The Cure’s output, but he’s never slam dunked da funk, so it was surprisingly great fun to have all of Five back onstage after 26 years.
