Algeria awaits presidential results
Algeria's electoral authority is expected to announce the results of the presidential election later on Sunday, with incumbent Abdelmadjid Tebboune, 78, predicted to easily secure a second term. Tebboune is running against Abdelaali Hassani, a moderate Islamist candidate, and Youcef Aouchiche, a socialist. Tebboune's main challenge was to increase voter turnout after the 2019 elections, which saw a historic 60% abstention rate.
Letter: As mass shootings rise, Republicans are blocking reform
As a parent, I worry every day about the world my children are growing up in. That’s why its disheartening that on the day of the 631st mass shooting of 2023 at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Senate Republicans blocked legislation for an assault weapons ban and universal background checks. This inaction coincided with a record number of mass shootings in a year, and with the painful 11th anniversary of Sandy Hook, where 26 lives were lost. There is overwhelming public support for gun safety.

In SC, restaurants with repeated health code violations skirt by with few consequences
COLUMBIA — Roaches scurried across the kitchen floor. The health inspector took note. An employee cracked an egg, then handled a clean plate without washing up. Condensation from the walk-in cooler dripped into a tub of raw chicken. The May health inspection wasn’t the first time the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control dinged Flaming Grill Supreme Buffet in Lexington County for food-safety issues.
