VIRTUAL -- May 5, 2026 -- Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) therapy for patients diagnosed with both obesity and liver cirrhosis reduced overall mortality risk when compared with patients who had a history of bariatric surgery, although there are hints that GLP-1 treatment in this population may increase the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), according to research presented at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2026.
