In my review of Europa Universalis V, the latest grand strategy game from the masters of the genre over at Paradox, published back in October of last year, I mentioned that I believed that this title would eventually become one for the ages. Six months on, although additional content has been somewhat steady, fans have already been pointing out Europa Universalis V’s lower player count when compared to its predecessor.

Inspired by the great success and impact of the From Software games that Bandai Namco has published, the team at Bandai Namco Studios, responsible for the monster-hunting action RPG series God Eater, released, in 2019, their own take on the “Soulslike” subgenre in the form of Code Vein. Endearingly referred to as “Anime Souls” by fans, Code Vein sold over three million copies and developed a dedicated, if relatively small, following.
