1 Introduction Multiple sclerosis is the most frequent inflammatory and demyelinating disease in the central nervous system (CNS). Worldwide, it affects approximately 2.8 million people. The disease course is highly variable, and the accumulation of disability in MS is driven by a combination of relapse-driven disease activity and relapse-independent disease progression (Lublin et al. 2014; Tur et al. 2022).
