What does it mean to be a journalist?

As a journalist, I believe that good decisions are based on good information. For this to happen, people ought to have access to information and in a manner that they can understand to help them make informed decisions. I use my storytelling skills to analyze and translate technical information about scientific discoveries, health, research, and development and disseminate articles that can be understood across the board by professionals and the public. My mission is to empower people to use this information to advance the well-being of current and future generations.

Why did you become a journalist?

I became a journalist to come as close as possible to the heart of the world.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

following an exposé on how doctors opened the head of the wrong patient in 2018, Members of the Kenyan Parliament opened a two-month investigation which led to critical changes at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), the country’s leading referral hospital. The story was the largest special investigation on medical negligence in Kenya, making headlines both at home and abroad.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Choose a beat that you like and you will always be drawn to it.
