Faith leaders call for reopening of West Suburban Hospital

Over 50 community members gathered in the Columbus Park Refectory Tuesday morning, calling for the reopening of West Suburban Medical Center. Representatives from The Concerned Clergy to Save West Suburban Hospital, the Leaders Network Chicago, and the Chicago Medical Society were in attendance, as well as additional faith leaders, care providers, and residents. West Sub’s emergency room and inpatient services have remained closed since the hospital was shuttered in late March.

Organizers who support re-opening West Suburban Medical Center will attend an upcoming Democratic Party of Oak Park (DPOP) meeting and request local party leaders to invite the hospital’s CEO to present his plans to re-open the hospital. West Suburban closed in March following an issue with the hospital’s billing system. Following the closure, local organizers met with the hope of creating their own plan to reopen the hospital. Since then, organizers have been meeting in smaller working groups.

Students welcome Griff to his post as ‘therapy dog.’ “Is he here?” A dozen students filed into OPRF’s Student Activity Center during fifth period lunch, more excited than usual. “Where is Griff?” OPRF’s newest huskie is not a huskie at all, but a golden retriever. Griff, 1.5 years old, had his first day as OPRF’s facility dog on Dec. 3. Throughout the month, students have been able to meet Griff during their lunch periods.
