Every morning for the past decade, Brian Collins has brought his wife Val breakfast in bed. Seventy years into their marriage, it is one of the many small ways he still shows he cares. The couple, aged 92 and 89 respectively, are among the rare few in Australia who have made it to their platinum 70th wedding anniversary, which they celebrated earlier this month. They met at a bus stop in the Adelaide Hills in 1952.

Last year there wasn't a blade of green on Megan Lister's farm east of Wudinna. Now the grass is so thick she's losing calves in it. There has been a dramatic change of conditions in parts of South Australia that were gripped by drought 12 months ago. At the height of the dry, Ms Lister was hand-feeding stock around the clock, but in May the area received record monthly rainfall. Megan Lister is feeling much more positive this season.

A buoyant wool market is driving up the value of Australian sheep skins, reversing the dramatic downturn where worthless skins were dumped in landfill just 12 months ago. The upward trend is being fuelled by a spike in merino wool prices and demand from Chinese buyers, who are purchasing more due to low supply. Farmers just one year ago were forced to pay meat processors to dispose of the by-product, but now can expect some of the strongest prices seen in years.
