The New York Knicks' stunning 29-point comeback victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals sent Brooklyn into a frenzy Wednesday, but just as notable was the way fans across the borough gathered to cheer on the team together. Not only were fans in bars, they were out in the streets, setting up impromptu watch parties on sidewalks and handball courts. For many, sharing their love for the team that hasn't won a NBA championship since 1973 was front and center.

Brooklyn-based nonprofit Construction Workers United (CWU) promotes safe working conditions and fair pay for day laborers and low-wage immigrant workers across New York City. Through a hiring hall that allows workers to set their own rates, CWU connects homeowners and businesses directly with construction workers while helping laborers secure more stable employment.

On Saturday, May 9, New Yorkers for Parks led a walking tour between Fort Greene Park and the Brooklyn Navy Yard, showcasing both the highlights and challenges facing Brooklyn’s green spaces. More than 75 participants gathered on a dewy morning to stroll through the rapidly growing neighborhood. NY4P and advocacy groups including the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative highlighted the borough’s increasing density and the need for more green space to match.
