Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I started my own food blog in 2009 - it was terrible.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

What's a typewriter? JUST KIDDING. But no, I'm an elder millennial so I know what they are and probably played with one as a kid.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email!

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Grammarly, wordpress, splice, Instagram, TikTok.

What's your favorite social network?

Instagram.

Why did you become a journalist?

I went to school for Nutrition, but science was hard, and I hated it. Got an A in my English writing class, so here we are.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I'm from a small town with no high school newspaper. Sad.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Writing about sobriety is always scary, but incredibly rewarding.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Start writing!

When's the best time to pitch you?

During the workday, though I have a phone addiction.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I get them daily, and they aren't personalized and it's totally inapplicable to my area of interest and work.

What's your favorite drink?

Agua frizzante

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

On my phone.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Bon Appetit

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That I must only like nutritious food. There is room for it all! Food is so much more than its nutrition.
