BY EMILY MIBACH Daily Post Managing Editor Palo Alto City Council tonight (May 11) unanimously decided not to close the Churchill Road rail crossing to cars after students and parents asked for the closure due to recent suicides on the tracks.

BY EMILY MIBACH Daily Post Managing Editor The Menlo Park City Council tonight (April 28) decided to abandon a plan to charge local newspapers a fee for distributing newspapers in news racks. The council decided to dump the plan after hearing from residents and local journalists about the plan, which would have cost an initial $373 for a new rack and renewing a permit would have cost $233 every other year.

BY EMILY MIBACH Daily Post Managing Editor Palo Alto council members gave a lukewarm reception to a 75-foot building on California Avenue which has an architectural style inspired by baskets woven by Muwekma Ohlone. “I don’t love the exterior, but that’s me,” said Councilwoman Julie Lythcott-Haims, before pointing out that it wasn’t up to the council tonight (Sept. 15) to make any firm decisions on the building’s look, only to give feedback to architect Zoltan Pali.
