Increased hepatic gluconeogenesis and type 2 diabetes mellitus
Highlights Lowering blood glucose levels by targeting hepatic gluconeogenesis is a promising strategy for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The discovery of new mechanisms involved in the complex network of factors regulating gluconeogenesis has accelerated recently. These findings provide potential targets to attenuate hepatic gluconeogenesis by modulating substrate availability, hormonal regulation, and signaling inputs.
