Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I started out as a high school correspondent for the Tooele Transcript-Bulletin. I wrote a humor column and covered news from Tooele High.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I used one to fill out my college applications because the PDF wouldn't let me type in it, and I didn't want to fill it out by hand.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Hildy Johnson, of course. From His Girl Friday.

Why did you become a journalist?

I wanted to write research papers (think back to English classes) every day without dedicating my entire career to a single field of study.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was the news editor and page designer for what you could call the "A section" of our paper. I also started the school's literary magazine.
