Men film themselves sexually abusing sedated women and share it with other men online. Why? Original
The world watched on in horror in 2024 as Dominque Pelicot and 50 other men were tried in a French court for repeatedly drugging and raping Gisele Pelicot over almost a decade. All of them were found guilty. While such horrific abuse can feel far away and rare, it’s more widespread than many realise. There are private online communities with thousands of members all over the world, including in Australia, trading in video and photos of sedated women being abused.

Confronting Data Centers, Deep-Sea Cables, and Colonial Legacies in the South Pacific
By Emma Quilty September 17, 2025 Tropical paradise. Smiling faces. This is the fantasy Fiji has successfully sold to the world. And as I drive along the West Coast of Viti Levu, the archipelago’s largest island, the scenery does indeed resemble a tourist advertisement: crystal-blue ocean water, white sandy beaches, and lush tropical forests hugging the shoreline. Coconut boys and colonial histories: a murder mystery depicting Fiji’s inequities
At first glance, Sugar: An Ethnographic Novel, by Edward Narain and Tarryn Phillips, may look like a relatively light holiday read: a murder mystery set in the glittering paradise island of Fiji. But beyond the sweet (excuse the pun) cover and title, this novel tackles some serious issues including colonialism, globalisation, structural inequality, exploitative labour and trade practices, and Fiji’s diabetes epidemic.
The problem with Pod Man
Abstract Pod Man is the rational, individual and hyper-masculine transport consumer entrenched in industry narratives focused on automated vehicle technologies and infrastructures. This article interrogates how these narratives are constituted, the futures they imagine, predict and promote, and how people and households are presented within these futures. The discussions in this article are based on a content analysis of sixty industry reports.

What Netflix’s bolder and edgier Sabrina the teenage witch says about the changing idea of women
Netflix released the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina this week. Unlike its predecessor, the sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996), this version looks like it will be a much darker revamp. The previous Sabrina series featured the comedic high school adventures resulting from Sabrina’s new witchy powers – with commentary provided by Salem the talking cat. The new series follows Sabrina as she tries to decide between the witchy world and the mortal realm.
