Brewers Rally Past Dodgers To Sweep Their Way to the World Series
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Orange County native Jake Bauers placed a stake against the heart of the two-time defending champion Dodgers, and Garrett Mitchell and Aaron Ashby drove it home. After an initial four-run flourish from the Dodgers offense, the Brewers plated six unanswered runs; they took the lead in the sixth and never looked back. Ashby worked three scoreless and twice stranded the tying run at third base.
Major League Baseball Piloting Experimental Outfield Positioning Rules in Arizona Fall League
Eric Longenhagen Major League Baseball is once again using the Arizona Fall League as a laboratory for potential rule changes at the major league level.
Welcome to the 2026 Arizona Fall League: Scouting Prep and Preview
Jarlin Susana Photo: Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports The 34th Arizona Fall League season opens today with three games staggered across the Phoenix metro area. There are future stars in the Fall League every year, as well as many more workmanlike players who are competing for a 40-man roster spot on next year’s club.
I-90 Blue Bloods Clash: Guardians vs. White Sox ALDS Preview
David Dermer and William Purnell-Imagn Images The “mediocrity” of the American League made their muddled standings and September races for the postseason an object of derision. At least as far as the AL Central was concerned, though, that was not the case on my couch. All four of the division’s competitive clubs were must-watch TV down the stretch. Three of the Central’s teams finished with positive run differentials.
Two Huge Innings Catapult White Sox Into ALDS
Troy Taormina-Imagn Images The fan bases with rooting interest in the White Sox-Astros Wild Card Series entered the postseason with differing perspectives on their teams’ relative talent and season quality. Chicagoans, though perhaps irked at how the division slipped away from them at the end of the season, were likely thrilled to be here after multiple consecutive 100-loss seasons.
Joe Musgrove Thrives in Rehab Outing, Plus More Arizona Scouting Notes
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports While there was only one Instructional League game in the Valley on Monday, Tuesday had three options: Los Naranjeros de Hermosillo (a Mexican Pacific League team from Sonora, the Mexican State immediately south of Arizona) was at the Athletics’ facility in Mesa, while the Royals (hosting the Reds) and the Rangers (hosting the Padres) would have simultaneous games at their shared complex in Surprise.

Notes From Star-Studded Rockies-A’s Instructional League
Dylan Widger-Imagn Images Back from vacation, I returned to the field Monday for an Instructional League game between the Athletics and Rockies. How is the Instructional League different from the Bridge League, which I’ve covered previously?

Scouting the Uniformed Debuts of Early-Round Padres and Giants Draft Picks
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect Late last week, I arrive at Peoria, on the opposite corner of the Phoenix Metro, where Padres first-round pick Coleman Borthwick is making his uniformed debut against the Rangers. I’ve settled on “uniformed debut” rather than “pro debut” for these kinds of box score-free backfield outings that precede the player’s first real game at an affiliate.

Scouting Ketel Marte’s Rehab and Jackson Flora’s Pro Debut
Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images On Thursday, I woke up to a text warning me that first pitch of the Diamondbacks-Giants Bridge League game had moved up to 10 AM local time – presumably due to the heat, our morning low on Thursday was 95 degrees and cranked up to 113 – and that a rehabbing Ketel Marte was in the lineup. The change in schedule meant I could spend an hour watching Ketel and Co., then slip over to the Rockies’ side of the Salt River Fields Complex to catch a second game.

Scouting Notes on the Rehabbing Cubs and Diamondbacks Pitchers
Eric Longenhagen-FanGraphs I had Tuesday’s Cubs-Diamondbacks Bridge League game circled on the calendar. Chicago’s big league squad is in town this week (for a series that has become spicy), and I thought this meant the organization’s recently drafted pitchers might throw in front of traveling Cubs brass who could see their new talent in the morning before heading to Chase Field for the second game of that series.

Ranking the MLB Prospects Traded at the 2026 Deadline
55 1 River Ryan SP 28 DET LAD Skubal Fastball-driven mid-rotation starter with an unconventional (and injury-riddled) career arc. Unique profile. We think he’s a monster the second he’s healthy. 55 2 Anthony Eyanson SP 21.8 BAL BOS Rutschman High-slot mid-rotation arm. Velo has been up and down, more average of late. Elite, Lidge-y slider, developing split. Atypical release. Yesavage sequel? 50 3 Alexander Frias RF 18.4 STL MIL May/Romero Freaky bat speed and rotational athleticism.
In Detroit’s Valley of Darkness, a River of Hope
Matt Kartozian and Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Something about the the gut-wrenching way Tarik Skubal’s final Tigers start ended — with Detroit coughing up a big lead as it desperately clung to its playoff hopes — made it easier both to accept that he’d be traded and to understand that dealing him would probably be the right move.
