2022 - Community Activism and economic development
The award is the highest civilian honor for residents of Ajax, Ontario. It is given for cumulative efforts toward the betterment of its citizens and abroad. The award was primarily awarded due to the creation of Durham Region Eats, a Facebook group that was established at the outset of the Covid 19 crisis. The group served as a way to focus attention on the food sector in this eastern suburban region of Toronto, and has since grown into a group of more than 74,000 members. It has contributed net economic benefits estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and was done on a strictly volunteer basis.
