I’m a novelist, essayist, and journalist based in Seattle, Washington. You can find my writing in places like The Daily Beast, The Seattle Times, and The Millions. After graduating from Yale I worked for ten years as an environmental engineer, cleaning up polluted sites on both sides of the Cascades. I also play guitar in PNW bands and jazz combos.

Author Chris Lockhart was fishing in the Touchet River near Walla Walla several years ago when a childhood friend called out of the blue. This friend was Michael Dodd (a pseudonym used by Lockhart to protect Dodd’s identity), an avid outdoorsman and Afghanistan war veteran who had been committed to the state mental health system in the aftermath of Jan. 6, 2021, when he drove a pickup full of firearms to the governor’s mansion in Olympia.
