City of Detroit, regarding Detroit's use of ShotSpotter technology, should serve as a wake-up call about government accountability and the dangers of unchecked surveillance.

Eric Williams: Why most ‘regurgitated' approaches to police reform are wrong
As an attorney working in social justice, I am often asked for my opinion of various police reforms proposed since the public murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers. People are usually surprised when say I am less than impressed. For the most part, the proposals are familiar, regurgitated demands made by activists in the wake of prior police killings. Community policing, residency requirements, body cams, improved training, civilian oversight.

Comic concert review: Charli XCX takes us to the next level
Charli XCX has mastered the architecture of pop, but she's never fully cracked the mainstream – not even with her masterful, feature-packed new album, Charli. Maybe it's better this way. She packed Toronto's Rebel with true stans, all convened in reverence for her laser-precision songs of ecstasy, anxiety and anguish. Among them was our comic concert reviewer Eric Kostiuk Williams, who gave the British artist the illustrated tribute she deserves. Read his comic take on her concert below.
