True Deliverance Church and Tree of Life School revitalizing Killeen

As it embarks on its 25th year serving the Killeen community, a local church is expanding its ministry to offer education services while giving a makeover to an old school building. With an active food pantry and clothing closet for those in need, True Deliverance Church International has served the Killeen area since 1998. The location at 709 W. Dean Ave, is one of four sister churches, with two other locations in Texas, one in Spring and one in Stanton.

Killeen church planning 3-day October Blast program

A local church is hosting an October Blast for local families with free food, prizes, and entertainment. The hope-filled event designed to foster community and fellowship will kick off at Killeen Seventh-day Adventist Church at 4700 E. Rancier at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 and continue each evening through the 16th, according to Pastor Mike Fortune.

Texas Better Newspaper Contest

2012 - newswriting

The Victoria Advocate earned first place in newswriting in the annual Texas Better Newspaper Contest. The Advocate won for two news stories, "Same-sex marriage" by Gheni Platenburg and "Campus chaos" by Kayla Bell and Erin Pradia. The newspaper also took second place in feature story, winning for two entries, "Fighting back, giving back" by J.R. Ortega and "The pull of water" by Dianna Wray.
