A Northwest Indiana man has found a way to turn his family’s personal tragedy into an opportunity to spread joy to others through music. Eli Hernandez is known for being many things; a musician, songwriter and singer. But few know the why behind what drives him. He has volunteered years of countless hours playing music for kids chasing nothing more than a smile. Hernandez plays for children who are in hospitals, for those battling cancer, at rehab centers and at Camp Quality Illinois.

Liz Challoner is one of the founding members of one of the more unusual groups in the country, a full-time pigeon rescue called Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue. “A lot of people think they’re rats with wings. I did and I had a 180 and I’m glad I did,” she said.

CHICGAO — A Chicago shoemaker is gaining the reputation as not only a highly sought after designer but the place to go for those with large feet, small feet and everything in between. Orders are coming in from all over the world to a homegrown Chicago shop named Mohop that creates women’s shoes in 160 sizes. Annie Mohaupt is the store’s co-founder. “It really is kind of an honor to be able to make shoes for people who legitimately have been suffering without having any options,” she said.
