Weird Stuff? I'm Your Guy

Hey, I'm Ernie. I've lived a lot of internet lives over the years, including as editor of a cool news-focused Tumblr called ShortFormBlog. These days, however, I'm known for a twice-weekly newsletter I write called Tedium: The Dull Side of the Internet, where I do a deep dive into the weird, arcane, and mundane things one can find on the internet.

My work career has been pretty varied. I spent more than a decade at a content marketing and UX firm, where I helped to develop Associations Now, a magazine published by the American Society of Association Executives—with Manifest's help.

And prior to that, I've spent nearly a full decade in newspapers, including the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Bluffton Today, The Virginian Pilot's Link, and the Washington Post Express. At each of these places, I had a chance to design and edit numerous newspaper sections, including front pages.

What Keeps Me Interested

I have a lot of interests in journalism, particularly in terms of marketing, editing and experimental approaches. And outside of journalism, my tastes have been described as "off the grid" and my humor as punny. I'll reference Steve Reich, Somari, Pastafarianism, and underground cities in a single article if given the opportunity.

Beyond Tedium, I have an active Twitter presence at @ShortFormErnie, and aspire someday to create my own publishing startup. Probably on pixels, though, because newsprint is expensive.
