Python 3.10: new dataclass features
Dataclasses is a feature of the Python programming language which I designed and implemented in Python 3.7. It allows you to easily add a number of useful features to any Python class that you write. The Python 3.10 beta 1 was released last week. I've added two significant features to dataclasses in this release: support for __slots__ and support for keyword-only __init__ parameters. __slots__ I've long resisted adding support for __slots__ to dataclasses.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Reaction Spreads through Mobile Computing Industry

MWC 2019 Connected Computing Devices: Edge Computing A Conundrum for 5G PCs and Tablets
Edge computing is a lofty goal meant to offload data processing on end user devices onto the network, leveraging high throughput and low latency, so it’s no wonder that it keeps coming up in discussions here. 5G is an enabler of edge computing and how that happens is really going to come down to use cases by device. First, let’s set the stage for what the “edge” is in this case. It’s not the “cloud” sitting far away in a data center.
MWC 2019 Connected Computing Devices: 5G Coming to Computing Devices, but When?
If I had a nickel for every time I heard 5G today, that would be a really weird way to make money. I can’t take credit for that line, but I can testify to just how 5G-focused this year’s conference is. Every single meeting I’ve had so far has had a 5G component to it, if not fully 5G-themed. We’ve been talking about 5G for years and you can find our detailed forecasts on 5G tablets and 5G notebooks, so we have a solid outlook on when they’re coming and why.

MWC 2018 Connected Computing Day Two: Chinese Vendors Lead MWC with Computing Devices
We saw Huawei and Alcatel launch tablets and PCs during the press days of Mobile World Congress and Lenovo rounded out the show with its own PCs. It should be noted that no new computing device launches came out of leading US, Korean, Taiwanese, or Japanese vendors at this year’s show, perhaps opting for Computex instead. There’s one caveat to that statement, which we’ll get to later. In the Windows market, Lenovo unveiled the Yoga 730 (in 13-inch and 15-inch designs) and the 14-inch Yoga 530.

CES 2018 Day Two: Tablet Vendors Setting Sights on Adjacent Markets
Two of the biggest stories here at CES have important implications for tablet vendors: 1. The proliferation of voice control; and, 2. Bringing the phone experience to the compute experience. What will improved human-to-machine interaction in voice enable in tablets and how do tablets fit into this larger picture of devices with voice recognition. Why is it important that vendors are introducing cellular connectivity and longer battery life in 2-in-1 tablets?
