An epilogue to my time working at Twitter
since it's a long read, feel free to listen to this post instead Like seemingly everyone on this app I have plenty of opinions about Twitter > X and figure now is a good time to open up a bit about my experience at the company. I tweeted for years into the void for the love of it like many of you, but after selling my startup to Twitter in 2020 I finally got to see it from the inside. Up close it was both amazing and terrible, like so many other companies and things in life.
Elon Musk tweets ‘Hope you had a great Sunday’ as 200 Twitter employees were laid off – AI Tech News
Elon Musk posted a feel-good tweet wishing his followers a “Happy Sunday” just a day after some 200 Twitter employees learned they had lost their jobs. “Hope you’re having a great Sunday,” the Twitter owner tweeted. “First day of the rest of your life.” Musk’s tweet coincided with news that 10% of Twitter’s remaining workforce has been cut, including Esther Crawford, the stalwart executive who has embraced her new boss’s “extremely hardcore” work ethos.
Stripe launched global crypto payouts
Platforms and marketplaces on Stripe can now instantly pay funds to their sellers, freelancers, content creators, and service providers using cryptocurrency. Initially, payouts will be available using USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar. That means that companies like Twitter can offer creators the choice to receive payments in crypto. Twitter will use this feature to pay out earnings from Ticketed Spaces and Super Follows.
Squad is now part of Twitter!
I’m excited to announce that Twitter has acquired Squad! The team will be joining Twitter to broaden the spectrum of conversations people can have on the service. Specifically, we’ll be bringing our expertise in audio and video to the creation space — and are looking forward to building new formats that allow for fun, meaningful & engaging conversations.
The death of a startup was the birth of a bot
Warning: by the end of this post you’ll want your own personal bot. Last summer I joined a startup as the lead marketer. The cofounders had been part of multiple exits and everyone on the team was exceptionally talented. When I signed on it looked like the next round of funding would be an easy raise — but boy was I wrong.
Your company’s cap table matters - it’s who you’re making wealthy and powerful in the world
Squad’s $5M seed round was very diverse: yours can be too! Now that we’ve announced our seed round was led by Hayley Barna, partner at First Round, I can talk about something I’ve become very passionate about — our cap table. Shortly after launching Squad it was obvious we had hit on something magical so I decided to put a fundraising process together to fuel our product development and growth.
How my startup acquired Molly.com - without it costing a fortune or my soul
The domain buying industry is notoriously shady and secretive but you don’t have to be to succeed Last year my cofounders Ethan Sutin, Chris Messina and I were trying to decide on a name for our startup that automatically answers questions for you. We wanted to use Molly but when we looked at Molly.com it was clear the domain was owned and in use. So, like most founders, we tacked a verb onto the beginning and snagged TryMolly.com as our backup. This is where the story could’ve ended.

The inside story of Chris Messina's new chatbot
Last summer I joined a startup as the lead marketer. The cofounders had been part of multiple exits, and everyone on the team was exceptionally talented. When I signed on, it looked like the next round of funding would be an easy raise — but boy, was I wrong. (The $$$ crunch is real, y’all!) By the spring we were keenly aware of our rapidly diminishing runway, so we took reduced salaries and the CEO started shopping our team to potential buyers.
How I turned my resume into a bot. (And how you can too!)
How I turned my resume into a bot. (And how you can too!) I was able to get going pretty quickly with a few other messaging services including TextIt (whose visual editor I loved!), Sonar and Smooch . Botwick , the spreadsheet Twilio connector out of Betaworks, was also pretty easy to configure. I signed up and tested all the kits I could find but since I’m not a developer and only know the bare bones of HTML, CSS & JS I couldn’t get very far with most of the builders.

Marketers: do your part to advance diversity in tech
Marketers: do your part to advance diversity in tech While venture capitalists, journalists, and socially conscious technocrats tweetstorm about the need for more women and people of color in tech — marketers have the ability to create that reality, today. There’s no way that Silicon Valley will be able to solve its workforce diversity problem if startups can’t even get their marketing materials right. Every photo of a user in an app screenshot is an opportunity to be welcoming.
