A Flight Tale as Old as Time

I roll up to the airport at 5pm, ready for a 6:30pm flight back to NYC. I have no luggage and I'm TSA Precheck + gold status so I'm early, even. Just as I get through TSA: Annoying. My first meeting is at 8am tomorrow. I see there's an earlier flight that should leave at 5:20pm that's been delayed and hasn't even started boarding yet (UA1909). So I try my luck and walk to that gate to see if there's any standby seats. I'm told it's fully booked. I shrug and head to the United lounge. I am more annoyed.
