Can you tell the difference between house sparrows and song sparrows? Neither can I, but Syndey Liu (C ’26) can. As we sit by the Biopond, taking a break from the hustle and bustle of Locust Walk, Sydney helps me identify the birds hopping around us. She joined Penn's premier birdwatching club, UPenn Quackers, while trying to find leisurely activities she enjoys here at Penn.

Did you have a magazine when you were younger that captivated all your attention and shaped your ultimate aspirations? If so, you have something in common with Dr. Joseph Turow, who loves reading Ad Age just as much as when he got his first copy at the Brooklyn Library. Ad Age left its mark on Turrow's life; he has spent over 50 years researching advertising, media, and their influence on society.

Rohana Gullapalli (C ’25, W ’25) sits with me in Perry World House in her running shoes. Even though she is busy serving on the board of large campus groups such as AIS, she makes time to test her new limits and go out of her comfort zone by running half–marathons, and getting her scuba diving license while balancing her dual degree. Unbeknownst to many incoming Quakers, she is one of the figures who shape international students' experience on campus.
