Even before the pandemic, enough Milwaukee children weren't getting tested for lead. Then the coronavirus hit, and lead testing plummeted. Because children who are lead poisoned often don't show symptoms at first, testing blood from their pricked fingers or a vein is the only way to know if they've been exposed. That knowledge is critical to ensuring they get the help they need.

Group warns of 'elevated activity' by ICE in Milwaukee area Original

The advocacy group Forward Latino has issued a community alert notifying people of "elevated activity by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Southeast Wisconsin." The June 27 alert comes as Voces de la Frontera, an immigrant rights group based in Milwaukee, reported recent ICE activities locally. The Milwaukee Police Department also confirmed police were made aware that ICE was conducting "targeted enforcement for criminal activity in the area," a spokesman said in a June 25 email.
