A veteran of the Marine Corps and one of the first women to work for the FBI, Colonel Susan Malone will be strutting the runway next month to raise money for veterans in need. The former special agent says she's passionate about supporting Northern Nevada's veterans - a value she learned early in life.

Forty years ago, when Dr. Karen Gedney agreed to work in a place that no other doctor would go - in exchange for money toward her medical degree - she never imagined that it would land her in an all-male corrections facility. "I was probably the most naïve person ever to walk in to a prison," she told 2 News Nevada in an interview at Carson City's historic state prison.

Muralist Jamie Vincek is painting the interior walls of the Tony Armstrong Amphitheater to honor Sparks and commemorate America250, as the city works toward reopening the building for events.
