I loved the way it rippled like a consistent caress across my skin. The way it moved with my body, lending a regal air to my steps. I loved how it matched my brown skin. Seyi must have loved it too. He loved it so much he corrupted the dress with his desires.

2020-07-27 Fareeda Abdulkareem Documentaries No Victors, the illuminating two-part documentary from Ifeoma Chukwugo gets its name from the famous phrase uttered by Yakubu Gowon, a former leader of Nigeria at the end of the country’s only recorded civil war. “No Victor, No Vanquished”, the saying goes. But this documentary begs to differ.

2020-07-08 Fareeda Abdulkareem Documentaries Skin, the documentary exploring colorism in Nigeria, that made its debut on Netflix last month is a composite of two to three documentaries. On their own each could have been as great as they are distinctive. Together the final product is good, but not coherent enough to make the leap into greatness. The theme is an important one, with resonance beyond its subject country of Nigeria.
