Outcome of BCG Vaccination in ADA-SCID Patients: A 12-Patient Series

4. Results Among the 55 ADA-SCID patients referred to our center over the last 22 years, the BCG vaccination status was available for all but three (94%). Twelve patients (21%) had been vaccinated with BCG (female = 5, see ). The median age at ADA-SCID diagnosis was 6.5 months (range 2–21 months), and pegylated adenosine deaminase (PEG-ADA) enzymatic replacement therapy (ERT) was started with a median delay of 1 month after the diagnosis (range 0–14 months) in all patients but one.

Background Immune-dysregulation, Polyendocrinopathy, Enteropathy, X-linked (IPEX) syndrome is a lethal disease caused by mutations in a transcription factor critical for the function of thymus-derived (t) regulatory T cells (Tregs), i.e., Forkhead-box-P3 (FOXP3), resulting in impaired Treg function and autoimmunity.
