Time to reconsider our ties with Israel
In an article titled “Is Nigeria fuelling Israel’s genocide against Palestinians?” which was published in Businessday on October 30th, 2024, one Suraya Dadoo, who wrote in from South Africa, opened his contribution by quoting our Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, my friend and brother, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who he attributed the following words to.
Vengeance Is Mine: Murder On Lake Garda By Tom Hindle
arts It is always blissful on a cold, damp, English day, (and we’ve had a few) to turn your back on miserable weather, curl up in a comfy chair and lose yourself in a good book. That this novel begins with a wonderfully atmospheric description of the perfect location for a sumptuous wedding, in the romantic Castello Fiore, on an island on Lake Garda, is just a bonus. The sun shines in cloudless skies and the champagne is already on ice.
Born And Bred: A Woman Of Courage By Rita Bradshaw
arts They say there are only ever six degrees of separation and when I picked up this book there was only one: not a person but a place since I was born and bred in Sunderland where this novel begins. I admit the Eastend of the town is not that familiar to me and there’s little mention of my beloved seashore but there are plenty of references to places and shops which I do recognize and they helped pave my way through the narrative.

All Of Us Together: The Last Devil To Die By Richard Osman
arts Wow! That sums it up. Really, I loved this novel but I know you will want more than that, and if you are a regular reader, you will know that I don’t use one word when five hundred will do. Although the plot is a standalone, it does help to have read the other three novels in the series, preferably in order, to appreciate how the friendships and relationships have developed.
The God Business: Gaslight By Femi Kayode
arts Whatever the organisation, there is always the possibility of malpractice, of fraud, of people taking the helm who are not as innocent as they should be, and that goes for religious groups as much as anything else. This novel explores the darker side of the fictional Grace Church, led by the less than pious Bishop Jeremiah Dawodu, where fraud, rape and even murder are concealed beneath pure white robes.
The Best Crime Novels of 2023
Throughout the year I read a lot of crime fiction. It’s what I do instead of watching TV, to relax, so I tend to stay away from books that are too graphic. I’m particularly attracted to books that take me to interesting times or places. Inevitably, with thousands of books published, I’ve missed a lot, so apologies in advance for all the wonderful books I’ve left out.
Femi Kayode Considers Groups, Belief Systems, and the Village of Readers
When I am asked if my new novel, Gaslight, was inspired by real events, I answer no. But while the events themselves didn’t happen; the emotional center of the book originated with an incident that happened more than three decades ago. It was Sunday service like none I had ever experienced. Everything about the way the Pastor walked on the stage that long-ago day telegraphed something was afoot. He sighed, letting us all know how deeply his spirit was troubled.
Femi Kayode on Gaslight
Share Words by Femi Kayode | 07 Nov 2023 Femi Kayode on Gaslight, what it takes to explore rather than endorse actions that are morally abhorrent and why Narcissistic Personality Disorders are rife in religion today. I was always fascinated by the concept of how organised religion has managed to convince large groups of people about certain dogma that can be easily proven to be false.
Gaslight
I’ve never been to Nigeria; now there’s no need. Gaslight, the second in a series by Femi Kayode, takes us right into the heart of Lagos, and deep into the soul of an investigation into the disappearance of the wife of a bishop. This exceptional crime novel follows the author’s acclaimed debut, Lightseekers. The main character, investigative psychologist Philip Taiwo, and he is inveigled into finding the missing ‘First Lady’ of a ‘mega church’.
Does Killing Nigerian babies bring glory to our name? -
Monday, August 28, 2023 8:55 am By Femi Fani- Kayode A dear and respected friend of mine who was once our Ambassador to a European country, who has relatives and strong links in and with Niger Republic and who is well versed in security and intelligence matters told me that up to 40 babies are dying each day in Niger as a consequence of our cutting off electricity supplies to them.
A WORD TO THE OPPOSITION – The Sun Nigeria
By Femi Fani- Kayode As a consequence of the events of the last few days I am constrained to say that the Nigerian opposition, represented by the followers of Atiku Abubakar (Atikulators) and the followers of Peter Obi (Obidients), have lost control of their senses. They need to get a grip before it is too late. They are attempting to start something that they cannot finish and that they cannot possibly fathom the end of.
THE FLAP: Meet the intriguing minds behind the bestselling Detective Kubu series
In Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip’s latest novel, A Deadly Covenant, a human skeleton is discovered at the site of a controversial new dam in remote northern Botswana, and rookie Detective Kubu is drawn into a terrifying local feud… The Reading List spent a few minutes chatting with Sears and Trollip about their writing life. The Reading List (TRL): Good afternoon, Michael Stanley – or should we say, Michael and Stanley – and thank you for agreeing to an interview.
Tinubu’s endorsement: Questions for Afenifere | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News
Given what is unfolding in the South West today certain questions have to be asked and certain truths need to be spoken. Permit me to begin with the following. Would the Afenifere of old ever have supported a non-Yoruba candidate in a presidential election? Why do we have to cut our nose to spite our face? Simply because you hate or envy Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not mean we must deny the entire Yoruba race a crack at the Presidency. And even if Tinubu offended you in the past, can we not forgive?
Is Tinubu/ Shettima ticket a threat to Christians? - Part 2 | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News
Those that doubt that this can be achieved should consider the innovative and unique power-sharing arrangement between Christians and Muslims in Lebanon and read up on what is known as the ‘Lebanese formula’. After their prolonged and horrendous civil war which raged through the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s this negotiated formula and settlement, which was enshrined in their constitution, brought relative peace to that hitherto beleaguered nation.
Is Tinubu/ Shettima ticket a threat to Christians? | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News Original
I am very fond of Dr. Babachir Lawal and I have great respect and affection for him but I beg to differ with him on this issue. What he has said is simply not true and those that espouse and share the views that he has expressed are playing a dangerous and divisive game. Unlike him I do not see a Muslim/Muslim ticket but rather a Tinubu/Shettima ticket. They are both human beings and Nigerians before being Muslims. We should at least accord them that consideration and respect.
Attack on Kuje: My response to the Defence Headquarters
By Femi Fani- Kayode I read the response from the Defence Headquarters of Nigeria (dated 9 July 2022) to my video about the insecurity in the country and the attack on Kuje prison and I was utterly amused. Given the gravity and seriousness of the deteriorating security situation in our country, I did not know whether to laugh or cry when I read through it.
WAFCON: Super Falcons Qualify For Knockout Phase, To Play Cameroon In Quarter Finals
By Femi Kasali The Super Falcons recorded a 4-0 win over debutants, Burundi in the last Group C match to finish the Group Phase as runners-up to the Bayana Bayana of South Africa. With the victory, Nigeria finished with Six Points following their wins against Botswana and Burundi, and will face the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon in the Quarter Finals of the Championship.
Lightseekers by Femi Kayode
Femi Kayode Press Reviews “A superb novel – so inventive and so well done. It's just brilliant” – Harriet Tyce, “Gripping, beautifully written and unlike anything else you'll read” – William Ryan, “What a sensational debut. Confident, beautifully-paced writing. Dr Philip Taiwo is a protagonist I want to meet again, and the setting is so well-drawn. Intelligent, suspenseful and utterly engrossing” – Will Dean, “Thrillingly good. Femi Kayode takes crime fiction – very literally – to new places ...
The why, not the what
Unless I’m mistaken, a riot is about to break out in the departure lounge of the Lagos Domestic Airport. ‘Someone should at least tell us what’s going on!’ an irate passenger barks into the face of an unruffled airline staff member, spraying her with spit. Good luck with that, I think from where I sit with my meat pie and Coca-Cola.
The Best Crime Fiction of 2021
recommended by Sophie Roell If you're into crime fiction as a form of relaxation, a wide range of books continue to be published, set in places around the world. Sophie Roell, editor of Five Books and a keen reader of the genre, picks out some of her favourites from 2021. Crime fiction is my go-to genre when I want to relax, and 2021 was no exception. I spent quite a few nights reading late to find out who had committed the crime.

Review: The Stranding by Kate Sawyer
arts The Stranding is the exceptional debut novel by Kate Sawyer, which begins with the end, but then explores what happens thereafter. Whilst this is a story that launches from an apocalypse, the overriding focus is on a theme of hope and human connection. We can relate to the characters we meet, despite not knowing what it would be to share their reality; they are grounded, resilient and appear able to place value only in what truly matters to them.
Suggestion That IPOB or ESN Killed Gulak is Nonsensical, Absurd - ex Minister
Biafra Crime Opinion ❚ jamesany ❚ 45 seconds ago❚ 0 0 You already voted! By Femi Fani Kayode Why did the Governor of Imo not provide security for Gulak? Why was Gulak dressed in jeans and a baseball cap as if he was in disguise? I knew Gulak for over ten years and I never saw him wearing jeans and a baseball cap. Why did he sneak out if the hotel in a car hire without any form of security? Who were the men in the car with him and who was the driver? How come we have not heard from them?
We will meet the barbarians at the gate: No retreat, no surrender, no plan b! ~ By Femi Kayode
In 1842 Thomas Babington Macauly wrote my favourite poem titled ‘Horatius at the Gate’ and made a point that we can all learn from in Nigeria today. He wrote: “Then out spake brave Horatius, The Captain of the Gate: “To every man upon this earth Death cometh soon or late.

Interview With Victoria Princewill
arts Engaging with a debut novel is one of my most highly treasured delights. Sans the osmotically invasive baggage of preconceived expectations, or the earnest entreaties of epistemophilia, I am able to allow these fresh voices to meet my sensibilities unmolested by the distorted prism of my preconceptions or canonical reverence. The pages themselves will debouch subjectively adduced authorial talent, or conversely cause me to consider its antithesis.
Natasha Cooper - February 2021 Crime Round-up
Home » Archive » 493 » Natasha Cooper « previous | next » February 2021 Crime Round-up Girl A By Abigail Dean HarperCollins 400pp £8.99 order from our bookshop This is probably the most disturbing crime novel I have read, and the bravest. Lex is a lawyer working in the United States when she is summoned back to Britain because her mother, of whose will she is executor, has died. So far so ordinary, but Lex’s mother had been serving a twenty-five-year sentence and died in prison.
