What was your first job as a journalist?

Story migration at the Telegraph website, if that counts. Rubbish day rate, but was grateful - and it led to my first 'proper' job

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. Not very well however. Thankfully, I'm of a generation where I never needed to for work... although I do touch type 85 words a minute.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

The Globelink news team.

Awards

Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards

2013 - Best ICT Feature
From over 1,000 entries from around the world, a finalist list of just three people was drawn up, before the winner was announced at a ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London. The submission, Africa's healthcare technology revolution (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18969646), was praised for a "refreshing and insightful take on the impact of ICT in Africa". The prestigious Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards recognise journalists and editors from around the world who provide high quality coverage of the business environment in Africa. The Awards, which this year celebrate their ten year anniversary, recognise the fact that excellent business journalism plays a crucial role in promoting Africa as a destination for investment. The Awards also underline Diageo’s belief that better and more accurate reporting helps to create a fair and responsible environment in which to do business.

Ecommerce Awards

2013 - Journalist of the Year
First recipient of the award, having faced stiff competition from a talented group of competitors in this new category. Nominations were made by a committee rather than by application or public nomination, and then the longlist of journalists noted for their reporting on ecommerce issues opened up to a public vote. The eCommerce awards for excellence are now in their fifth year.
