An application for a proposed dog breeding facility in Elphinstone in Central Victoria has been withdrawn following lobbying from residents and animal activists. The puppy farm had planned to operate 24 hours a day and house up to 150 dogs including corgis, golden retrievers and Cavalier King Charles spaniels. The application for the facility, lodged with Mount Alexander Shire Council in April, stated it "mandates scheduled caesarean sections at specialised veterinary clinics".

Residents of a cash-strapped regional Victorian council have warned that proposed closures of three local rubbish tips could lead to extra travel amid a cost-of-living crisis. The proposal, which included the closure of transfer stations in Bealiba, Dunolly and Talbot, was outlined in Central Goldfields Shire Council's 2026/27 budget. The closures would leave only one transfer station in the shire, located at Carisbrook, just outside of Maryborough.
