________________ In Uganda, maize is synonymous with one thing – posho! However, it can be used in various industries for the production of other products, including animal feed, starch, sweeteners, oil, beverages, glue and industrial alcohol. That said, it is emerging that there is more to maize than posho and industrial products. Lately, natural materials are a big trend in interior design.

___________________ Victor Paul Kawagga is a creative designer and resident of Nansana in Wakiso district. He is passionate about innovation and creativity in producing unique home interior and exterior products. Thus, he has designed dynamic wooden furniture, such as folding desks, chairs, and extendable folding tables that can be compact when not in use. Additionally, Kawagga has designed a sofa that doubles as a bed, addressing the issue of limited space for individuals living in single-rooms.

_____________________ Approximately 95% of every 10 homes in Uganda, both rural and urban areas rely on charcoal, firewood or other forms of biomass for their household cooking needs. The adoption of electric cooking (e-cooking) has been rather slow in Uganda despite government initiatives to increase coverage of the national electricity grid and e-cooking subsidies for those cooking on it.
