Today, we see rosé wines as a spring and summer essential, with consequences like “rosé all day” plastered on napkins, wine glasses, sweatshirts, etc. But if we look back in time, it’s not an entirely novel concept. Rosé dates back to 1550 BCE with the Phoenicians. Rather than it being the mark of warm weather’s arrival, it was a source of daily hydration. With water being a far cry from the dependable drinking source we know today, the ancients would pour it into red wine to disinfect it.
