Arizona ranks 40th in national child well-being report, near bottom in education

PHOENIX — Arizona climbed two spots in a major national report on child well-being, but the state still ranks near the bottom overall and last in education among the 50 states. The Annie E. Casey Foundation's 2026 Kids Count ranked Arizona 40th for child well-being. Arizona's ranking reflects a strong North-South divide. All lower-ranking states are in the Sunbelt — Mississippi, New Mexico and Louisiana sit at the bottom — while higher-ranked states are concentrated in the North.

PHOENIX — A new study breaks down the annual income needed to retire comfortably in Arizona — and which cities in the state are easiest on retirees' wallets. Retiring comfortably in Arizona requires at least $68,642 per year on top of Social Security, according to a study by financial site MoneyLion. MoneyLion defines a comfortable retirement as spending less than half of your income on necessities — shelter, groceries, and utilities.

Arizona poll shows Hobbs ahead of both GOP governor candidates

PHOENIX — A new Noble Predictive Insights poll shows Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs holding a general election advantage over both Republican candidates in Arizona's 2026 governor's race, while Congressman Andy Biggs leads the GOP primary by a wide margin. In the Republican primary, Biggs holds 48% support compared to Congressman David Schweikert's 18%. A third of GOP voters remain undecided. In a general election matchup, Hobbs leads Biggs by 4 points, 41% to 37%.
