Letter: A love letter to the library
Our local libraries are a great way to spend our tax dollars. We have dedicated and well-educated librarians. The Fargo locations are gems, and the new Moorhead building appears to continue with its great reputation. The downtown Fargo adult floor has a new design with a separate quiet reading area overlooking the river. It's sometimes nice just to grab a national newspaper or book to sit and browse. The downtown Fargo location has additional parking to the east.

Letter: Trump's cabinet picks are scary
Most of President-elect Trump's cabinet picks are beyond belief and scary. Anti science, anti vaccination. Anti public education. Network news commentators with no experience in leadership. It seems that they were picked so that none seems worse than the others. Except Gaetz, of course. Sens. Cramer and Hoeven: Show some backbone. At least, vote against a few of the worst. Gary Larson lives in Fargo.
Letter: The rich will benefit under Trump
A major campaigning issue for Trump was the size of the federal deficit. His massive tax cuts from his previous presidency for corporations and the wealthy expire in 2025. He will probably extend these in some form. Our debt problem will then be kicked down the road and ultimately be blamed on Democrats. The very well-off will continue to benefit from low tax rates, large estate tax deductions, and tax deductions the average taxpayer does not receive.
Letter: We don't want to be a hub for data centers
The recent Forum article on AI and crypto (Bitcoin) mining barely touched on the terrible dangers of building infrastructure to support their mega electricity appetite. The recent history of Dickinson's support of crypto mining shows consumers seeing their utility bills greatly increase to support out of state investors. All in the name of growth. At any cost. And at any cost to the environment.
Letter: Stop buying and using crypto
Earth Day has come and gone with many dire predictions based on climate change and its related energy usage. Increased insurance and food costs, drought-related population migration, and certain military activity can already be traced to the increasing number of severe weather events. Now we hear of shortages and increased costs of electricity due to cryptocurrency mining such as for Bitcoin.
Letter: Has Trump finally gone too far?
So, now former President Trump is telling the world that Russia "can do what they want" if Europe doesn't greatly increase their funding for NATO. To our congressional delegation and Gov. Burgum: Aren't you finally terribly scared of this man? Gary Larson lives in Fargo.
Letter: Cryptocurrency is the currency for hackers, kidnappers and other criminals
Adding to Mike McFeely's excellent column the on the terrible environmental effects of cryptocurrency: Has your church or school been hit by hostage taking of your computer system? Getting back the system usually means depositing funds to untraceable cryptocurrency. The same is true for ransom fees for international kidnapping and the laundering of legal and illegal income to avoid taxes. The list goes on and on. How else is the value of crypto propped up?

Fin-Influencers Are on ASIC’s Watchlist
The rise of the Finfluencer has become a growing concern amongst investors for some time. The increasingly growing space which generally involves loose no financial advice disclaimers has seen some influencers make extraordinary incomes merely by promoting online financial products. Rarely has this been seen greater than that in the Cryptocurrency space where the influx of influencers using their unsuspecting client base to push ‘pump and dumps’ has reached all time highs.

Letter: Democrats don't like elections
The recent push by the Democratic Party to enact a new voting rights bill has been downright frustrating to watch. If we actually had a mainstream media, who was interested in reporting the truth, they would be pushing back against the distortions that Democrats are using to support passage of this bill.
Letter: Mask up, Fargo!
Reaction to the Omicron virus by Fargo leadership has been alarming. Once upon a time, the city commissioners continually reminded all citizens to mask up. Now they’re voting down mask precautions . Is it no surprise the Omicron virus is sweeping the nation? Serious thought needs to be made, and serious leaders need to step up. At what point will our commissioners wake up to the threat not only facing our community, but our nation?
Letter: Bison move to the FBS easier said than done
This month’s convincing victory over the Montana State University Bobcats earned the North Dakota State University Bison their ninth NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision national championship in 11 years. The win will no doubt cause some interesting rhetoric concerning a potential departure of the Bison football program from the FCS ranks to ramp up in earnest. Four words can best describe a move of NDSU to the Football Bowl Subdivision – or FBS ranks.
Letter: The realities of a discriminatory electric vehicle mandate in Minnesota
As of this past summer, Minnesota is now officially the first Midwestern state to adopt California’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Program, a mandate spearheaded by Gov. Tim Walz. The intended goal of this program is to increase the sale and consumption of electric vehicles in Minnesota to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Letter: We may see end times, but it won't be due to a prophesy
So, we now have a president and state department running our Mideast policies with an eye to Biblical prophecy? So it seems with President Trump’s odd reversal on our Mideast presence and other terrible decisions with education, etc., etc. A president who needs to shore up his election prospects with End Time voters. What happened to our Constitutional separation of state and religion? The end of the world may indeed come due to power hungry political leaders, but probably not due to prophesies.

In How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings, Sarah Cooper, author of the bestselling 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings, illustrates how women can achieve their dreams, succeed in their careers, and become leaders, without harming the fragile male ego.
Letter to the Editor
We were described as having been "hoodwinked" into passing IM 22. The only "winking" going on, however, was between politicians and their donors and lobbyists. Voters were not hoodwinked. We were delegitimized. Amendment W, the anticorruption amendment, is on the ballot as the citizens' response to the repeal of IM 22. Amendment W provides straightforward improvements and, because it is an amendment, it cannot be repealed without giving voters the final say.

Letter: Big bills are coming due

Letter: Don't believe those who preach about the limited footprint from drilling
Of course, not a word will be uttered on the continuing dire economic effects of climate change weather events. Hopefully a modicum of common sense will stop any drilling in the pristine Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge included in the bill. ANWR is home to migratory bird species, the declining polar bear population, and the vulnerable caribou. Don't believe the talk of a limited footprint of drilling.
Three Issues That Will Keep Corporate Directors On Their Toes In 2018 - Corporate Board Member
We say this based on dozens of discussions this past year with boardroom stakeholders – including proxy advisors, directors, and active and passive investors. The following three areas look certain to make boards up their game: In 2017, a single cybersecurity attack cost U.S. companies an average of nearly $900,000. Just two years ago, a single attack came with an average price tag of nearly $500,000.
Letter: Retirement account balances do not go to heirs untaxed
The Forum published an excellent letter from Andrew Swenson Nov. 18 on the huge tax giveaway to the very wealthy that would go with the current Republican tax reform bill on estates. The very few farmers and small businesses that go over the current limits have other options to be able to hand down their property to their heirs. Much of the value of these estates have never been taxed, unlike estates of the vast middle class.
Letter: Where are the logical thinking Republicans of the past?
Most Americans are not overtaxed; especially those who benefit from deductions and deferrals that most taxpayers do not have access to. There are adjustments that can be made to make the system easy and more fair. But, massive cuts to the wealthy haven't and won't bring great growth. Getting rid of the estate tax will give tax-free benefits to the super wealthy. Then, how will we pay for increasing infrastructure needs our businesses rely on?
Letter: Hopefully Trump will grow in office
Hopefully, his economic advisers will remind him that trickle down tax cut theory has never worked. Middle class security depends upon bringing down our debt and that the wealthy pay their share. Those that benefit from our system utilize our tax supported infrastructure and should pay proportionately for it.Hopefully, his followers will accept that an actual wall on the Mexican border does not make sense.Hopefully, he and his advisers will respect our public lands.
Letter: Hopefully red states will stop Trump
Donald Trump will bring devastation to the world's economy, including our farm economy.Hopefully North Dakota voters will join with other normally red states to stop this man. And that by 2020, the Republican Party will bring reasonable candidates forward.Larson lives in Fargo.
Letter: Will they still support Donald Trump?
Donald. Trump says President Barack Obama is somehow linked to the Orlando massacre. It will be interesting to see if Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., still supports this disastrous presidential candidate. Or if the North Dakota Republican governor candidate still supports him if nominated at his party's convention. Larson lives in Fargo.
