The World Economic Forum adopted a newly minted word to frame the debate at its 2023 Annual Meeting in Davos. Welcome to the “polycrisis”. As corporate communication and marketing leaders, we are well-equipped to deal with a crisis. However, navigating cascading global crises – including war, surging inflation, failing supply chains and rapid developments in AI – means we need to be more nimble and adaptive than ever before.

Talking freely, openly and in person made for an engaging debate across the week at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos. Against a backdrop of multiple challenges including war, economic fragility, the cost of living crisis and geopolitical shifts and fragmentation, the week was characterized by meaty themes.

Leaders from across government, business, civil society and beyond are preparing to gather in the Swiss ski resort of Davos for the World Economic Forum’s 53rd Annual Meeting. But, at a turbulent time for the global community, what can we expect? What is the Davos 2023 theme? This year’s overall theme – Cooperation in a Fragmented World – points both to the challenges, but also to the aims of the meeting. As the Forum explains, “the world today is at a critical inflection point”.
